Paradise Café 5K Fun Run/Walk March 11, 2006
6th Annual Paradise Cafe 5K Fun Run/Walk, Relay for Life, event, was our biggest yet with 300 participants. We raised $6,000.00 for the Southernmost Runners Relay for Life Team and the American Cancer Society. There were runners, walkers, baby strollers and of course my favorite the four legged walkers (with paid for numbers of course). We had some delicious food for the post run party, bagels from Alison and Mark at Goldman's, fruit from Helen and Andy at Blossoms Grocery, and of course a variety of our Paradise Cafe sandwiches. Pepsi Cola donated all the water and Gatorade, and Budweiser (Silver Eagle) came through with a great new beer called Michelob Ultra Amber, ice cold and delicious, enjoyed by all. Budweiser also donated several cases of their 180 energy drink which disappeared quickly. This year we had a new sponsor, thanks to Greg Sullivan, Waste Management covered most of our t-shirt costs. I believe that we had a lot more door prizes then last year, thanks to my prize collectors Margie Randel, Marie Robinson, Edie Kehoe and Susan Kochan. My friend Dennis as always does a wonderful job of organizing all the volunteers. Thank you Dennis and all of you who volunteered. We had a new D.J. this year, who dis a great job, many thanks to James, Who usually runs in all the races, instead he entertained us all with fun music. Ron Cooke who has never let me down in 6 years of events, with great photography and wonderful articles in the Key West Citizen. You are a true friend thank you so much.
Marie and Jim Robinson donated buttons to be sold at the fundraiser that say "Cancer Sucks" which it does. They are in memory of their brother in law Kevin McEnvoy. I am still selling them in the Paradise Cafe and I also wear one every day in his memory, and in the memory of many of my friends that I have lost in all the years. Thank you to the Southernmost Runners for all of their support and all of you who so generously donated, and participated in helping to make a difference in this fight against Cancer. Remember you are all making a difference.
Thank you Key West
